The Finnish Rail Administration is responsible for maintaining and developing Finland's rail network. The goal is to keep the present rail network in the condition necessary to meet traffic needs so that services are safe and efficient.
Finland has 5,919 kilometres of railway lines, including 3,067 kilometres of electrified lines. Spending on track maintenance totals roughly €135 million a year.
The maximum axle weight on most lines is 22.5 tonnes. The maximum speed is 220 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.
